A
WRITER’S BOOKSHELF These
are some books that I have found helpful on my journey as a writer:
The
Artist’s Way,
by Julia Cameron. This book is
indispensable for writers and artists of any sort. I tried to ignore this book for years, but it kept
finding me. I return to it again
and again for inspiration. Writing
Down the Bones and Wild Mind, both by Natalie Goldberg.
No books are better for getting ink on the page. Natalie is the ultimate writing coach. Also, Thunder and Lightning:
Cracking Open the Writer’s Craft. Fearless
Creating,
by Eric Maisel. This book helps to
exorcise those writing demons and get you working. It’s a wonderful book for all writers and artists.
I can’t recommend it highly enough.
The
Art of Creative Writing and The Art of Dramatic Writing, by Lajos Egri. It’s
a Bunny Eat Bunny World, by Olga Litowinsky. This
book has some good practical advice for aspiring children’s authors. Idiot’s
Guide to Writing Children’s Books. Lots
of good info here. Worlds
of Childhood: The Art and Craft of
Writing for Children, edited by William Zinsser. How
to Promote Your Children’s Book, by Evelyn Gallardo. This book tells you what to do after you’ve been
published. Extremely useful. Click
here for a list of books for aspiring younger writers. |
